When I was a child, I did not have a computer or video games. I had a television, but I did not watch many programs. I didn’t have a cell phone, but my family had a home phone. Rather than talk to my friends on the phone, I chose to meet up with them in town and talk to them in person. In the summertime, my sister and I would leave in the morning and not return home until dark. We would meet up with our friends and play all day. We used our imaginations, and we were creative. We pretended we were a famous rock band, and we would stand on top of a picnic table at the park, pretending it was our stage. We would use blankets and the clothesline to make a tent, and we would make believe we were camping. One day, we pretended we were fishing. We used sticks as fishing poles and yarn as fishing line. We sat on the bank of the creek and fished for hours. Needless to say, we didn’t catch anything, but we had a lot of fun.
