We all know that seeds are important for the manufacture of many kinds of food items. However, they are also quite important for the manufacture of many kinds of natural fabrics as well. The parts of the cotton plant that we process into textiles are for instance, the coverings of the cotton seeds. Only fairly recently has a viable natural cotton substitute been extracted from a plant that does not make use of seeds, the bamboo. However, this and other natural cotton substitutes remain quite expensive and probably won’t ever replace good old reliable cotton seeds completely.
