circuit city
Doug52392 asked:

Hi, I’ve been hearing in the news lately that Circuit City are not doing so good, and recently put the company for sale, and possibly file for bankruptcy. Unfortunately, I have several Circuit City gift cards (mostly from Christmas or birthdays). I’ve heard that if a store you have a gift card for goes out of business, you can’t get your money back, and pretty much loose that money. Would it be a good idea to go to CC soon and buy something (I know what I want by the way)

Mitchell

    Yes!!!

You should try to use all gift cards as soon as possible. You never know these days who’s going to go out of business next.

You will lose the money if they go out of business, or possibly even if they file for bankruptcy but stay in business. One company recently stopped honoring its own gift cards; I can’t remember who…

That would be the smart thing to do. Unless you like losing money haha.

Circuit city is not going out of business, that’s just rumors. But the company is going through some challenging times but they are no where near bankruptcy. If you plan to use your gift card soon, then you should be fine, otherwise, i will say no.

Yes, when a company goes out of business, there is a chance you will not get your money back if you hold their gift card. But there are cases where a company in bankruptcy will continue to honor gift cards, like currently with Linens and things.
