circuit city
sameer s asked:

I still have roughly 2 years left on my pc warranty which I spent like three hundred bucks on when I bought my laptop warranty through circuit city. This warranty is through circuit city, not the manufacturer of the laptop. So, what are my options now that Circuit City is closing? Can I get money back on the warranty?

The warranties that you buy from CC are through a 3rd party a lot of the time, so you should be fine.

This is up on the CC website:

Are Circuit City’s extended warranties affected by the liquidation?
    * No. Circuit City Advantage Protection PlansĀ® (extended warranties) have been backed by third-party independent companies for more than 15 years and as a result, are not impacted by Circuit City’s closing.
    * Currently, all Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans are fully backed by the Assurant Solutions companies. Assurant Solutions operates as Federal Warranty Service Corporation, Sureway, Inc., and United Service Protection, Inc. Assurant Solutions is part of Assurant, Inc. (NYSE: AIZ), and its extended service contacts are backed by an Assurant insurance subsidiary rated A “Excellent” by A.M. Best Co.

These days most service plans, including Circuit City’s are handled by a third party. Your plan will stay the same, but you will have to send it in to the warranty company.

on the website they said that the warranties are still good is you bought the product BEFORE January 17. but i think you will give it back to the manufacturer and they will replace it. ps. their sales suck. all they did was mark it up and they give a discount. but in the end they are charging you MORE money.

With the Advantage Protection Plan paperwork from Circuit City I have from a Digital Camera I purchased, there are 3 phone numbers to contact for service, divided by product type : 1-800-555-4615 (PC, PDA, Monitors, Printers, Digital Cameras, Laptop) and 1-888-333-2333 (Televisions, Camcorders, Stereo Systems, Car Electronics) and 1-800-871-2761 (Video Game Systems, VCR, Fax Machines, Phones, MP3 Players).

So… As long at the people who answer these phones for Protection Plan Service are not part of the Circuit City group that are now being let go… The C.City website indicates that the Protection Plan Service is handled by another company/companies and not part of the C.City closing….. We’ll see….
